E-sports players competing in top-flight tournaments face the equivalent pressure and stress as professional athletes like footballers and rugby stars in high-profile tournaments, new research has found. For the study, the researchers examined the psychological challenges encountered by elite e-sports professionals when competing in major contests. Researchers found that e-sports players faced 51 different stress factors – including communication problems and concerns with competing in front of live audiences – mirroring the mental conditions experienced by pro athletes including footballers and rugby stars in high-profile tournaments.

“E-sports has become a multimillion-pound business attracting audiences worldwide, but there is little research into the psychological factors that influence players,” said study co-author Phil Birch, a senior lecturer at University of Chichester in England.

“We have discovered that gamers are exposed to significant stress when competing in top-flight contests. By isolating these stressors, we can help e-sports players develop effective coping strategies to deal with such stressors and optimise performance while playing at the highest level,” Birch said.

Poor communication between teammates was identified as a key stressor among players when exposed to pressured environments.

To manage the situation, players either became overly aggressive to one-another or attempted to avoid communication altogether, which negatively impacted their performance, said the research team.

For the study, published in the International Journal of Gaming and Computer-Mediated Simulations, the researchers interviewed high-ranking players who compete in the increasingly-popular first-person shooter game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

“As an industry we’ve known for a long time that stressors on top level players can negatively affect their performance,” said Rob Black, the Chief Operating Officer at ESL, a leading e-sports company.

“This study proves this and reinforces what we have been saying for years. Further developments are needed in this area, and that will be key in ensuring the number of professional players continues to grow worldwide,” he said.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has been leaked again. This time, an image via Weibo suggests the smartphone will run MIUI 9.7.9.26 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat, and be powered by a Snapdragon 625 SoC. There’s a 4000mAh battery and 12-megapixel rear camera too. Most notably, it is said to have a 5.99-inch display and is the first Redmi smartphone to have an 18:9 aspect ratio with a 1080×2160 pixels resolution.

Some of the other rumoured specifications include a 5-megapixel front camera. There could be two variants of the phone at launch: 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. It is likely to support dual-SIM cards in a hybrid SIM slot configuration.

Xiaomi India Teases ‘Desh ka Smartphone’ Will Have Great Battery Life, Redmi 5A Expected
In other Xiaomi news, the company is set to launch the ‘Desh ka Smartphone’ in India on November 30. The Redmi India Twitter account teased a smartphone with great battery life – pointing at either a large battery or optimised software in the form of MIUI 9. Speculation points to the Xiaomi Redmi 5A as the prime candidate for launch on November 30. The reasons are aplenty. First is the fact that the Redmi India handle was used to tweet, revealing it would be a Redmi-branded device. Secondly is its price – CNY 599 (roughly Rs. 5,800). A third reason for this is its battery life – Xiaomi says it will offer a battery life up to 8 days. It also runs MIUI 9 out-of-the-box.

Xiaomi India Cuts Prices of Mi Accessories Thanks to GST Implementation
Xiaomi has announced it would be passing on the benefits of a lower price on its accessories due to a GST (Goods and Services Tax) rate cut to consumers. What this means is, the Mi Power Bank, Mi Business Backpack, Mi Charger, and other accessories see a price revision. The 10000mAh Mi Power Bank 2 is now available for Rs. 1,099 (originally priced at Rs. 1,199), the 20000mAh Mi Power Bank 2 is priced at Rs. 1,999 (previously available for Rs. 2,199). The price drop is also applicable to Mi Business Backpack that arrived in the country at Rs. 1,499. It is now available for Rs. 1,299. You can check out the new prices for all Mi accessories and phone cases here.

Jio Effect: Aircel Launches New Unlimited Voice Call Packs With Data Benefits
The impact of Reliance Jio’s low tariffs is far from over. Aircel has announced new rates for subscribers in Mumbai. They’re available for existing and new prepaid customers. Current Aircel users can get unlimited local and STD calls as well as 2G data for Rs. 199 for 28 days. New customers can get the same benefits for Rs. 178 for 28 days. If unlimited voice calling isn’t crucial to you, existing customers can get local and STD voice calls for 20 paise a minute for a year by recharging with the Rs. 78 pack. New subscribers can avail of the same 20-paisa voice call benefit plus 2GB 2G data for the first six months and a talk time worth Rs. 70 with a recharge of Rs. 88. Comparatively Reliance Jio offers unlimited voice calls and 1GB data per day for 49 days at Rs. 309. Airtel has a similar offer for Rs. 349 but for 28 days.

OnePlus 5T Sold Out Within 5 Minutes in Second Early Access Sale on Amazon India
The OnePlus 5T sold out within five minutes of its one-hour preview sale on Amazon India this Friday. The phone was also on sale on the OnePlus India online store and open to all customers on both platforms. “We have seen unprecedented customer response to the early access sales, in India as well as globally. Hundreds of fans stormed our ‘Experience Stores’ in Bengaluru and Delhi,” Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India, said in a statement. “We are happy to announce that OnePlus 5T will go on open sale, starting on November 28, across all channels including Amazon.in, oneplusstore.in, select Croma stores and ‘Experience Stores’ in Bengaluru and Delhi,” Agarwal added.

OnePlus 5T also broke the company’s launch-day sales record on the first early access sale on November 21, and became the company’s fastest-selling device in six hours, the company said. Back in India, at the same first early access sale, Amazon said the OnePlus 5T became the highest grossing product for a single day for Amazon Prime members.

Black Friday Deals: The Best Deals From Amazon, Best Buy, and Other Sales; OnePlus Says ‘No’ to Black Friday Sales, Offers $0.01 Discount
Black Friday sees an assortment of discounts on tech from the likes of Amazon and Best Buy. Some great deals include price drops on the Sonos Play 1 that’s now $149 instead of $199. It works well with Amazon Alexa and can be easily set up over Wi-Fi. There’s the Sony MDR1000X wireless headphones that’s now $228.99 on Best Buy compared to the original price of $399.99 The headphones include adaptive noise cancellation features and a battery that promises up to 20 hours worth of usage. In terms of sound, it competes with the likes of Bose QC35. You can check out all the deals here and if you’re wondering how to order and ship your purchases to India, this handy guide is here to help.

And while every retailer is competing for your Black Friday money, don’t expect the OnePlus 5T to get a discount or at least one that’s substantial. There’s a mere GBP/EUR/USD 0.01 discount on the original price. Though the Dash Power Bundle is 50 percent off for 24 hours in US, UK, and Europe.

“Our goal is to share good technology with the world. That’s why we price our devices fairly year-round, so that you don’t have to double check the match. Say no to Black Friday price games,” OnePlus said.

Google Pixel Gets ‘Smart Battery’ Feature to Make Better Predictions
The Google Pixel 2 might be in the news for all the wrong reasons but that hasn’t stopped the company from adding new features. Smart Battery now makes it easier for Pixel users to ascertain battery loss. Google explained that past Android smartphone battery life estimates were based on simple assumptions. With Smart Battery, Google Pixel and Pixel 2 users see how battery life is drained over time. Pixel users can see the new battery predictions via Settings > Battery which will now show personalised battery estimates. Michelle adds that it tells you both percent of battery left and how many hours the device will last.

Sony Launches New Range of Noise Cancellation Headphones in India
Sony launched four new wireless headphones in India. The Sony WH-1000XM2 price is Rs. 29,990, while the WH-H900N price is Rs. 18,990, WF-1000X price is Rs. 14,990, and WI-1000X price is Rs 21,990. The WH-1000XM2 and WH-H900N will be available from December 14 while the WF-1000X and WI-1000X are available right now. All the wireless headphones will be available in Black with the WH-1000MX2 available in Gold too.

Twitter Starts Testing ‘Bookmarks’ Save for Later Feature
Twitter is testing a new feature called Bookmarks. It’s aimed at helping its users privately flag tweets for viewing later.

“News from the #SaveForLater team! We’ve decided to call our feature ‘Bookmarks’ because that’s a commonly used term for saving content and it fits nicely alongside the names of the other features in the navigation,” tweeted Tina Koyama, a product designer at Twitter.

The feature will help users keep a private list of tweets they can refer to at their convenience rather than using the heart button which is publicly visible and can be misconstrued as ‘liking’ or endorsing a tweet instead of bookmarking it for later consumption.

Amazon Workers Strike at Italian, German Warehouses on Black Friday
While the concept of Black Friday is slowly being embraced by Indian retailers, Europe sees Amazon’s workers in Italy and Germany striking on Black Friday due to a breakdown in discussions regarding bonuses.

Unions said in a statement more than 500 Amazon workers at the Piacenza site in northern Italy had agreed to strike following a failure to negotiate bonuses with the company.

Workers have also decided not to do any overtime until December 31, covering the peak season for the online retailer which hires temporary workers during this period. The Verdi trade union in Germany said Amazon employees would also strike on Friday at six distribution centres in the country as part of a long-running dispute over pay and conditions.

“The world’s biggest online retailer wants to achieve record sales on this day, but employees have to produce record performance not only on this day so that everything runs how Amazon wants it,” said Verdi board member Stefanie Nutzenberger.

On Thursday (November 28) evening, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will take oath as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra, heading a government of the Maha Vikas Aghadi that will also include the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress.

The ceremony will take place at the historic Shivaji Park maidan, a 28-acre open space in the Marathi-dominated Dadar neighbourhood of central Mumbai. Shivaji Park is a prized bastion of the Shiv Sena, and holds immense emotional value for the party.

Even in 1995, when the former Shiv Sena-BJP alliance won state elections for the first time, Sena leader Manohar Joshi was sworn in as Chief Minister at the same venue.

Rooted in history

Founded in 1925 as Mahim Park, the open space was renamed as Shivaji Park in 1927 due to efforts by freedom fighter, suffragist and then BMC councillor Avantikabai Gokhale. A statue of Shivaji was erected by public subscription.

In the 1930s and 1940s, the park hosted national independence rallies, and post-Independence became one of the rallying points of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, which demanded the carving out of a separate Maharashtra from the erstwhile Bombay state.

Among the movement’s leaders was the social reformer Keshav Sitaram “Prabodhankar” Thackeray, the father of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. The senior Thackeray ran a fortnightly magazine called ‘Prabodhan’, which was a platform for criticising social evils.

The Shiv Sena and its Dussehra rally

In 1966, Bal Thackeray formed the Shiv Sena, the party then driven by anti-South Indian and anti-communist rhetoric.

Thackeray addressed his first rally at Shivaji Park, and started holding gatherings on Dussehra day every year.

Situated in Dadar, which was largely inhabited by Maharashtrians, the ground became instrumental in attracting the support of local masses. Large crowds would turn up to see the firebrand leader, and his speech on this day assumed significance as it would set the party line.

Over the years, Thackeray would bring other political figures to the Dussehra rally, including BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pramod Mahajan, the socialist George Fernandes, and Sharad Pawar.

In 2010, when the Bombay High Court directed the Mumbai civic body to notify Shivaji Park as a silent zone, Thackeray hit out at the order in an editorial piece in the Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’. The court subsequently allowed the annual gathering.

In pics: Assembly Election results — Prominent winners, losers

More than five decades later, the Dussehra rally tradition still continues, with Thackeray’s son and successor Uddhav addressing it.

The Sena headquarters — Sena Bhawan — is located nearby, and Bal Thackeray lived in the Park’s vicinity for several years. MNS chief Raj Thackeray remains a resident of the precinct.

Thackeray died in 2012 at age 86 of cardiac arrest. The Park has a ‘Smriti Sthal’ dedicated to him, and in 2018 the BMC handed over the Mumbai mayor’s bungalow (opposite the ground on Veer Savarkar Marg) to a trust for housing a larger memorial.

There have also been demands to rename the ground has “Shiv Tirth”.

Panasonic Lumix DC-S1H has been launched, the company’s latest digital single-lens full-frame mirrorless camera aimed to deliver cinema-quality video output. This new camera joins the Lumix DC-S1 and Lumix DC-S1R in Panasonic’s lineup of professional-grade, full-frame mirrorless cameras. The Lumix DC-S1H sensor’s resolution has been set at 24.2-megapixels, and it complies with the new Dual Native ISO. Other key highlights of the Lumix DC-S1H include Full V-Log/ V-Gamut with 14+ stops of dynamic range, 6K full-frame capture, 4:2:2 10bit internal recording, Cinema 4K recording at up to 60p, and unlimited recording time.

In its press release, Panasonic says the Lumix DC-S1H is the “world’s first camera capable of video recording at 6K/24p.” The 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor found in the Panasonic Lumix DC-S1H complies with the new Dual Native ISO, which means in combination with optimum signal processing by the Venus Engine, the camera will be able to achieve a maximum ISO 51200 during recording, all while keeping the noise in check. The camera features unlimited recording time in all recording modes thanks to the company’s unique heat dispersion technologies. Also, in addition to being the world’s first camera capable of video recording at 6K/24p (3:2 aspect ratio), the Lumix S1H can also record at 5.9K/30p (16:9 aspect ratio) and 10-bit 60p 4K/C4K.

To avoid shaky shots caused during handheld video-recording, the Lumix DC-S1H combines 5-axis Body IS (Image Stabiliser) and 2-axis OIS (optical image stabilisation) found in the Lumix S series lenses. This helps in shooting stabilised footage for as low as 6.5-stop slower shutter speed. Moreover, the complete range of the Lumix S-series cameras employs the L-mount system, which means users will get a diverse and future-proof range of products.

The Panasonic Lumix DC-S1H has been priced at $3,999.99 (body-only), and it will be available for purchase by the end of September, next month. Lastly, there’s no official word on the Indian price or release date.

The post Black Friday 2019: What to Buy From India and How to Prepare Yourself appeared first on Webscientistt.com.

]]>

Black Friday is just around the corner and it’s is probably a good time to start preparing. You can enjoy some of the best deals from the biggest retail event of the year in the US while sitting in India. Most of the Black Friday deals run until Cyber Monday, but the best ones are bound to run out rather quickly. Major retailers have already started offering some of their deals before Black Friday while others are busy promoting their upcoming deals and offers.

Based on previous trends, thousands of deals and offers will be made available during Black Friday 2019. But not all of them will be worth your time and money, and some of them will not be worth buying from India.

However, if you’re vigilant enough and keep an eye out, you could score some pretty interesting deals during Black Friday this year. We have already prepared a simple Black Friday 2019 guide to explain everything you need to know. Today, we’ll talk about how you can make the most out of Black Friday from India, and what to buy and what to avoid.

What to buy during Black Friday 2019 from India?

Black Friday sales can be a great chance to grab several gadgets. The general rule of thumb is to grab a great deal as long as it’s not too heavy because shipping can break your budget.

So what should you buy during Black Friday sales? Memory cards, wireless routers, computer accessories, portable speakers, wearables, and smart home equipment are just some of the products that you can buy at great prices during Black Friday.

Digital subscriptions are another important item that should be on your list during these sales. You should keep an eye out for gadgets that are overly expensive in India or aren’t available here officially during Black Friday sales. You may be able to grab one at a decent discount.

What to avoid during Black Friday 2019 sale?

As we mentioned earlier, avoid anything too big to be shipped from the US. LED TVs, bigger speaker systems, coffee makers, etc., are a big no, unless you’re relying on someone to physically bring your product back home. You should avoid shopping on just about any random online store and stick to the big names.

You should also skip deals that seem too good to be true, they most probably end up as scams. Don’t buy something that looks cheap without considering shipping and import duties. If you’re buying on Amazon, you’ll need to pay for shipping as well as a deposit on the import duties involved.

How to prepare for Black Friday 2019 shopping from India?

First, and foremost, always keep a list in your mind or on paper consisting of products you really want to buy. It’s very easy to get carried away during this type of sales. You’ll end up spending more money than you initially planned, thus defeating the purpose of shopping online during a sale.

If you’re going to shop on websites that don’t directly ship to India, make sure you sign up for a third-party shipping service well in advance. Great deals run out in a matter of minutes during Black Friday so there’s no time to waste.

Compare prices on all major online retailers before making a purchase. A basic search of the product name on Google will easily reveal the best prices being offered by the most popular stores during the sale.

Keep your currency calculators handy. You could simply google currency conversions or use an app on your smartphone or computer for this.

Do make sure you log on to Gadgets 360 during the Black Friday sales this weekend. We will be sharing some of the best deals from the sale right here.

When Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan took the stage at Blizzcon 2019, most in attendance knew that Overwatch 2 was coming. Leaks had circulated online just days prior, and reporting as far back as June had pegged internal changes at Blizzard to the sequel’s development. Kaplan himself couldn’t ignore the issue, jokingly addressing the leaks during the announcement. While Overwatch 2 wasn’t a surprise, another bit of news was: Most of the sequel’s new features will be playable in the original Overwatch, and players of both games will co-exist in a shared world online.

Outside of upcoming player-versus-environment (PVE) modes, Overwatch 2’s new heroes, skins, maps, and player-versus-player (PVP) modes are coming to Overwatch 1. The reverse is also true: All cosmetics and progress can be transferred from the first game to the sequel. Support will continue for both titles, and eventually, the two experiences will be merged into one unified client.

It’s a consumer-friendly approach, since Blizzard is pledging not to leave Overwatch 1 players behind. But in practice, it also raises several questions: Given continued support for Overwatch and an eventual merge, why call Overwatch 2 a sequel? And, with co-mingled content, will current Overwatch players have enough incentive to buy the sequel? If not, does that make Overwatch 2 a financial risk?

Based on what has been revealed, it’s been stated that Overwatch 2 looks more like a paid expansion than a true sequel, and Blizzard’s messaging thus far has painted a confusing picture.

“For us as gamers, sequels make us nervous more than anything else,” Kaplan said nearing the end of his Blizzcon 2019 address. “So, what we’re hoping to do with Overwatch 2 is really redefine what a sequel means.”

In a phone interview, Kaplan called the game a sequel in terms of artistic and creative direction. It’s a way for Blizzard to repackage and re-imagine the franchise in a new light. To Kaplan, Overwatch 2 “isn’t as controversial as it sounds.” From his point of view, it’s incomparable to DLC because the content for Overwatch 2 is considerably larger.

“This isn’t just DLC or an expansion,” Kaplan said in the interview. “I play a lot of games. I can’t think of a single DLC or expansion of this magnitude.”

Blizzard is keeping additional heroes and modes under wraps, so we don’t know how massive Overwatch 2 will be. However, there have been recent examples of expansions or DLCs with extensive new content. Destiny 2′s paid expansion, Shadowkeep, for example, includes new missions, a new raid, new PVE locations, PVP maps, a revamped armour system, new weapons and exotic gear. But at least some of that content will be made available to existing Overwatch owners.

Kaplan believes that Overwatch 2’s central hook of PVE will be enough to incentivize players to purchase it, since a portion of the Overwatch audience has long clamoured for a better exploration of the franchise’s lore and story.

“There’s so many people who are deeply engaged with our characters because we’ve put these heroes in the forefront,” Kaplan said. “People have fallen in love with them who aren’t necessarily the best PVP players, and they have a tough time sometimes in a competitive setting. They would love to engage with the characters in a way that is a little bit less high pressure to them. So we felt like, you know, if we could deliver one really massive feature to our fans, it would be to blow out the co-operative side of the game.”

The question of the game’s future success could focus on whether the Overwatch fanbase, which has been almost entirely PVP to this point, is in fact clamouring for a PVE counterpart set in the same universe. Up until this point, Overwatch has been light on narrative, leaving eagle-eyed fans to pore over character reveal teasers – which resemble animated Pixar shorts – and the series’ official comics. Kaplan says Overwatch 2 will be “a complete story experience like you would expect from any triple-A blockbuster game.” Kaplan didn’t specify how long the campaign would be since it’s still in development, but promised it would be “significant.” The team is exploring a live-service approach for it as well, so that new content can be added regularly.

PVE modes aren’t completely new to Overwatch; previous iterations, like Uprising, appeared as limited-time events that players could participate in for free. Overwatch 2’s PVE mode sounds more involved than in the past, but risk on the sales front is that the new PVE experience won’t be enough to entice purchasers.

Michael Pachter, who studies the video game market for Wedbush securities, pointed out that the motivation for a sequel, as opposed to focusing solely on the live service aspects of the original, is tied to revenue.

“You don’t need a new game,” Pachter said. “You can drop a new map every six months. But if you did that, you’re not making enough money; you’re just making the existing install base happy.”

The belief is that Overwatch 2 will be more of an expansion to a familiar blueprint rather than a true sequel, and that both games will continue to receive live updates.

Kaplan disputed a recent report that suggested Overwatch development had suffered because of the sequel. “In one of [our] developer updates we were very upfront with our audience and said, ‘We are no longer going to focus on the seasonal events. That’s not going to be what’s driving our development. We’re going to focus on quality of life features, other big social features that we’re interested [in]’ and that’s exactly what we did,” Kaplan said.

Kaplan said the team has more than doubled in size to accommodate for development on the sequel, and that there’s “really cool content and plans” for the upcoming year. “It’s a challenge, but it’s one that we’re excited to meet,” he said.

Similar arrangements have aroused player scepticism in the past. Ten years ago, Valve faced a minor uprising within its Left 4 Dead community. After the announcement of Left 4 Dead 2, thousands of players pledged online to boycott it. Fans felt the sequel came too quickly after the original release, lacked substantial changes, and could mean a new entry would come at the expense of support for the original. Valve addressed some of these concerns and vowed to continue updating the original. Valve did so, with smaller updates and patches continuing for Left 4 Dead, but dedicated its larger post-launch content for Left 4 Dead 2. Despite the controversy, the sequel performed well, receiving positive reviews and selling two million units only two weeks after launch.

How this plays out for Overwatch remains to be seen, as, in the days since Left 4 Dead 2, new business models have gained traction with the rise of esports and microtransactions, which has made the live service model more lucrative to game publishers. However, microtransactions, and in particular loot boxes, have also had a tendency to grate on consumers, even as they’ve proven to be financially successful.

To complicate matters, sequels in the games-as-service space are tricky as resources can be taxed to support updates across multiple titles. Most studios end support for the previous title and focus their efforts on the next game. Rockstar and DICE, for example, have opted for traditional routes: Grand Theft Auto Online and Battlefield V’s predecessors have largely been abandoned. Bungie similarly focused its energy on Destiny 2 upon launch and ended support for its predecessor.

Moving forward, Pachter believes it would be in Blizzard’s best interest to make Overwatch 1 free-to-play, thereby broadening its user base and increasing the potential for those new users to purchase additional in-game content, or the sequel. The free-to-play model has been financially successful for titles like Fortnite and Apex Legends, and more live service games are experimenting with it, like Destiny 2′s New Light.

“I think they’re taking baby steps with Overwatch,” Pachter said. “By announcing Overwatch 2, which sounds like [it would release in] 2021 at the earliest, or more likely 2022, you’ve got a year or two to play around and maybe move Overwatch to free-to-play and see how it works. And I think that if you make Overwatch 1 free-to-play and Overwatch 2 costs money, then in 2024 or 2025, you make Overwatch 2 free-to-play. And then you have Overwatch 3 coming out. I think that’s the model.”

It’s unclear exactly what Overwatch 2’s business model will be or what price Blizzard will place on the new game. Kaplan said those talks haven’t begun in earnest. When they do, Blizzard wants to consider what benefits players best, he said.

“We are constantly studying different business models and different games,” Kaplan said. “We’re fans of many games out there. Fortnite and Apex Legends, those are fantastic games. And then we’re really lucky here at Blizzard that if you look across our portfolio, we have almost every business model represented.

“Ultimately, what we want to lead the discussion is what creates the best player experience. And that’s going to be the theme that we’ve put in the forefront when deciding what the right business model is.”
